Walt and Hilde fled the hustle and bustle of Belgium to live a simpler and more conscious life here in Alentejo. After a long search for a peaceful place in nature they found the property that would be transformed by their loving care into Assumar Country House.
Set on the outskirts of a small village, the guesthouse manages to be both intimate and spacious. There is plenty of room to roam in the gardens, a pool for the hot Alentejo summer days, and places to just sit and soak in the slow rhythm of this region.
The main house features four guest rooms, a library/treatment room, dining rooms, a game room with billiards, and a terrace offering sweeping views of the surrounding plains dotted with cork oaks and olive groves. Dinners are extra special here with views of the pink and orange hues from the setting sun in the distance. There is also a self-catering garden apartment, a reflecting pond, and a small chapel.
Guests at Assumar Country House are welcomed and treated like family during their stay. Walt and Hilde live on-site and are available to answer questions and offer recommendations for area activities, walks, restaurants and more. Guests often return and for good reason.
